Tournament Chairman and Director Phil Cello brought the Fairfield Challenger to Fairfield in 2015. The tournament is now located at Solano Community College. The tournamant is a great opportunity for players to find inspiration from some of the world's top tennis players. Even some CITA alumni have played as wildcards in the Challenger tournament.
The NorthBay Healthcare Men's Pro Championship brings to you the opportunity to watch ATP World Ranked Professionals, and see the power of their serve, the grace of their movement, the split-second decision making ability, the hard scrambling 'imposible shot' made possible in an up-and-close setting at the Solano Community College.
In 2013, Tournament Chairman and Director Phil Cello, founded the Solano Tennis and Education Foundation. The non-profit Foundation operates on the campus of the Solano Community College ("SCC") with the purpose of providing programs and facilities to further the academic and athletic opportunities for SCC students, along with young athletes from Solano County, by providing no cost tennis training and educational development services. The tournament hosted children from The Leaven to participate in the USTA's Next Generation Program, a fun, kid-size introduction to the game.
The foundation's name was changed to the Chris Cammisa Tennis and Education Foundation (CCTEF) in memory of Dr. Chris Cammisa, a beloved Solano County doctor and Tennis Player who passed away in June of 2014.
NorthBay Healthcare has held the title sponsorship since 2017, honoring the legacy of Dr. Cammisa, who served as its chairman in the department of family practice. Dr. Cammisa was also chief medical officer at Partnership HealthPlan from 1999 to 2010 before his passing in June 2014. He was a longtime volunteer with youth sports throughout the county.
The CCTEF uses the NorthBay Healthcare Men's Pro Championships as an annual fundraiser to support its programs. The Foundation's first goal of creating a men's and women's intercollegiate team has already been accomplished with the addition of the men's team in the Fall of 2015 and the women's team in the fall of 2016.
